Keep on reading to find out more about Versace.

Brief History of Versace

This luxury fashion house was founded in Milan in 1978 by Gianni Versace. One of the important aspects of the Versace brand is its Italian roots, heritage is always woven into their style. From its opening date, Versace was a leader in the high fashion circles, constantly producing high-end clothing.

In 1997 Gianni Versace was tragically assassinated and his sister Donatella was named the Artistic Director. Donatella is still at the helm of the luxury fashion brand today, making sure it’s always relevant and driving trends.

Versace is still one of the most popular brands available. The brand currently has over 200 stores in principal cities worldwide and they also have over 1500 wholesalers too. Nearly every red carpet event, award show, or film premiere will have a celebrity wearing Versace in attendance too.

If there’s one thing Donatella does well, it’s making sure Versace never misses an opportunity to get publicity.

Due to constant media exposure and celebrity endorsements, Versace has a cult following and lots of fans worldwide. This store is very popular today and posing in their signature clothing is a luxury many aim towards.

Is Versace a Luxury Brand?

While some brands we focus on aren’t at luxury standard, Versace definitely is. This fashion brand offers couture pieces at high price points, making them more exclusive and removing them from the fast-fashion sphere.

They do bi-annual catwalk shows, create one-off pieces, and use rare and expensive materials too. Though they offer some diffusion range and attainable products, Versace does sit at a luxury brand status.

Is Versace Expensive?

Versace is more expensive than the majority of clothing brands on the market. With over 40 years of experience and some of the most popular catwalk collections of all time, there’s no surprise that this brand can afford to price its garments so high.

This brand is even one of the most expensive clothing brands in the world – consumers can expect to pay upwards of $1000 for items in their couture ranges.

What is the Difference Between Versace and Versace Jeans Couture?

It’s common for luxury brands to have a range of different lines at different price points. This offers accessible garments for all markets but keeps their top designs at a high-end price. Versace offers the Verace label and Versace Jeans Couture.

The main difference is that the main Versace line produces luxury items and the Versace Jeans Couture is a lower-priced accessible diffusion line.

Versace’s Main Competitors and Who Stacks up the Best?

There is a range of different competitors against Versace, however, the main ones include Gucci, Armani, and Louis Vuitton. These luxury European fashion houses all cater towards similar demographics, so naturally, they are competing against each other.

While all brands are successful in their own right and all brands are also very popular now, Gucci is arguably the most successful of the competitors. Like Versace, Gucci is always worn to award shows and it’s a favorite pick of many celebrities. What sets the brand apart from Versace is its recent shows and celebrity campaigns too.

Is Versace Ethical?

Versace isn’t the most ethical fashion house, as the Good On You Index scores the brand at a β€œnot good enough” level. When you’re a brand as large as Versace, you really need to become a leader in the industry and make some key changes.

Unfortunately, Versace is not a transparent brand and doesn’t disclose much information about their labor practices at all…this usually doesn’t mean they’re ethically good.

The brand also uses few green or eco-friendly materials. They’ve also made no effort to reduce CO2 emissions in their supply chain either. They also use lots of leather, animal skins, wool, and down too making them poor in terms of animal welfare.

Summary: Is Versace a Quality Brand?

Versace is an industry leader when it comes to fashion and accessory trends, however, they do have a long way to go in terms of ethics and sustainability.

This brand isn’t going anywhere soon, so we hope to see Donatella taking a new approach to her fabulous designs! Great fashion and ethical practices can align, so we’ll watch this space and hope to see improvements in the future.
